There’s no clear easy way to make money online
It all depends on the skillset that you already possess or are willing to learn.
For ex. Video editing can be an easy way to make money online for someone who loves editing videos but it isn’t for me as I suck at it.
Nevertheless, below I’ve mentioned some skills that you can acquire in a short period of time and start earning online right of the bat as a beginner. These are the exact methods which I’ve personally used to reach a 4 figure ($$$$) income before turning 18
- Freelancing: While other methods on the list are more focussed on creating a long-term and possibly a passive source of income, freelancing is an exception. If you have a skill that is in demand and are looking to make some quick bucks, freelancing is the way to go. It has been my primary source of earning up until 2018 and is the reason how I got started with digital marketing. I’ve listed some of the skills below which are in demand and can be learned in a short amount of time. You can learn these and start making money on freelancing portals like Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, etc
- Content Writing: This is one such field that everyone can get into. All you need is a strong hold on any language (preferably English) and basic knowledge of on-page SEO. Because of this no barrier to entry (as most of us can become a content writer,) this field is highly competitive, and getting your initial clients will be hard. But, once you start off and have some positive reviews, it’ll be a breeze.
- Web Development: While web development in itself is a vast field and takes time to learn, you can start with creating basic websites using WordPress and start charging people to create websites for them. I have experience of over 5 years working with WordPress and have made decent money by building websites for my cleints.
- Graphic Designing: If you are already good with art, learning to do digital art can be a great skill to have. Illustrators and logo designers in particular are in huge demand.
- Whiteboard Animation: Video consumption is at an all time high and so is the demand for whiteboard videos. You can learn to use whiteboard animation softwares (VideoScribe is one such tool) and charge people to create whiteboard videos for them.
- Chatbot Development: The use of chatbots is growing exponentially as it can save a lot on customer support costs. You can learn to create chatbot sequences and offer it as a service to small businesses.
- Social Media Management: We all know how social media greatly influences our purchase decisions. Many local businesses try to leverage this by being active on these social media platforms. However, it takes a lot of time and in most cases, they’d want to delegate this task to someone else. You can offer to manage social media accounts on their behalf and charge them some money for the same.
- Virtual Assistant: Lastly, becoming a virtual assistant can also be one way how can start off earning money online. In order to get a job in this field, you need to have at least basic knowledge of computers and office suite (word, excel, etc.) Proficiency in business communication is a plus.
- Start Your Own Blog: Rather than writing content for someone else, you can just start your own blog and reap the benefits longterm. This has been my focus in 2020 and beyond. However, it takes more than just content writing to successfully run and manage a blog. Apart from content writing, you’ll also have to learn the nuances of SEO, both on-page and off-page. It’ll also take a little more time than content writing to start generating some revenue but you can turn it into a passive earning source in the long-run. Below I’ve mentioned a few ways through which you can monetize your blog and make money off it:
- Adsense: It is the most commonly used way to monetize blog. It involves placing adverts within your articles. When a user comes to your website and clicks any of those adverts, you get paid. It’s that simple.
- Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing is similar to Adsense but you get paid for every sale that you make rather than just clicks. The pay is generally a lot higher than Adsense but it also requires more effort from your end. You can partner with various Affiliate Marketplaces like CommissionJunction or JVZoo or signup with in-house affiliate programs of various eCommerce websites like Amazon and start earning money through this method.
- Sponsored Posts: If your blog generates decent traffic and has established some authority in the niche you are in, you can charge people to talk about their product on your website and charge for it. Fellow bloggers will also be willing to pay you to link to their website form within your blog. In conjunction to the above 2 methods, this can generate decent money and help you diversify your income.
- YouTube: If you’re not particularly good with written content, you can also create engaging videos on topics of your interest and get paid for it. However, you need to be consistent on this platform if you want to grow your audience. The methods of monetizing a YouTube channel are similar to that of a blog so I won’t repeat them here.
- Social Media Marketing: Rather than working on Social Media handles of someone else you can create a niche page and build an audience for yourself. You can then monetize it by selling sponsored posts, affiliate marketing or maybe by selling an info-product/service. LinkedIn is the best social media platform to focus on in terms of reach but your offering needs to be aligned with what that platform has to offer. For more casual niches, you can try Pinterest and Instagram. Even Quora makes up for a good platform, especially for personal branding if you know how to use it correctly.
While there are a gazillion more methods of making money online, I’ve only mentioned the tried and tested ones that have a low barrier to entry and very less to nil investment requirements. You can start off with the one which you feel is the best fit for yourself and then slowly expand into other avenues, exactly how I’m doing it.
