Google gives the advertiser two broad options when advertising with pay per click. Advertising in search results, advertising in the content of websites or indeed many people choose to do both. Advertising in search means that the results appear under searches in Google, and its distributors are displayed in search results. Google Content Advertising applies to websites that choose to include " AdSense " in their websites. As AdSense spread rapidly, it can now be seen on millions of web pages across the web. However, many advertisers are abandoning it in favour of only advertising in search results.
There are many reasons for this, and the first is trust. This is a result of smaller websites opting to adopt click fraud through AdSense empires. Although this problem occurs in search, it is much less effective. People who commit click fraud on search are trying to undermine a competitor's ROI. The same applies with AdSense, as well as website owners trying to increase their revenue using a similar strategy.
Another reason why website owners are choosing to market with content is the buyer's motivation when it is on the website. Someone on a website other than advertisers could be there for completely different reasons. For example, a website discussing the disadvantages of AdSense will actually return ads to those selling "AdSense websites", for example. People may click on it, but they are unlikely to buy it after reading negative reviews. Another reason could be that the person on the AdSense website was actually looking for the
best colour palette to use. So, the person will not find the ad relevant, but can click on the ad without paying attention.
AdSense websites are also often rejected by the advertiser because they feel that there is more administration involved. Checking through websites to see how relevant they are, and editing your bids to make sure they still appear on one page. Having a network of more than 500 websites in a few words, it is definitely a difficult and costly task. While this is the case, many people also find that their AdWords account returns websites that don't even try to support their keywords. A mature example are ads under legal phrases that appear on the AdSense websites "Terms and Conditions" and "Privacy Policy" pages.
Although many people are disapproving of content advertising, there are still some who feel that it provides the same ROI for search. One reason for this can be traced to the fact that more and more advertisers are opting for search only. When this happens, there is less competition for the advertiser, hence the cost of the word goes down. Advertisers are also getting good ROI from publisher's websites that decide to actively promote the advertiser's services within their content. An example of this can be seen when someone is discussing printing services, and actually recommends the advertiser's services directly. This is a positive step for both the publisher and the advertiser and a good way forward for publishers. Even so, publishers still have to remember, not being too explicit in doing so, or knowledgeable buyers will certainly be counting on the publisher's intention.
Another reason advertisers select content is to increase their scale, although this can be done in other search engines as well. However, the fact still exists that those who choose content advertising should choose the Google AdSense network. It is regulated over and above Yahoo and other counterparts, while its superior network of publishers means that advertisers will benefit from being able to spread their message through a variety of websites.
Despite AdSense being the best PPC content distributor, it certainly doesn't compare to what advertisers are looking for. Leads are more qualified, more regulated and less fraudulent when discovered. Despite this, advertisers should always test AdSense and see if it can provide the ROI they are looking for. Some advertisers say that content provides better benefits for their business than search. It varies, although in general search PPC remains king for advertisers.
